Pakistan clinch series with ease
Pakistan Women made a clean sweep of titles with a crushing 38-run win in the third and final T20 Internationals against their Sri Lankan counterpart at the SSC grounds yesterday. Pakistan Women earlier beat Sri Lanka Women 3-0 in the ODI series.
With the series levelled at 1 all after Sri Lanka put on a spirited performance to win the second match, a close tussle was expected in the series decider. However hosts failed to challenge the strong Pakistan lasses who stormed to a comfortable win.
Batting first, Pakistan Women made a challenging total of 113 on the back of valuable fourth wicket stand between Javeria Khan who made a top score of 38 and Nida Dar.
Sri Lanka Women in their run chase got off to an inauspicious start losing their first wicket in the third ball of the first over that of skipper Chamari Atapattu. Anushka Sanjeewani and Hasini Perera associated in a brief 20-run stand for the second wicket.
But the dismissal of the pair saw the host side losing three quick wickets for the addition of only 11 runs as they slipped to 32 for 5 in the seventh over. An unbeaten 25 from Imalka Mendis was not good enough to steer Sri Lanka Women to victory. Sri Lanka managed only 75 runs off their allotted 20 overs for the loss of eight wickets.
- Pakistan Women 113 for 6 in 20 overs (Javeria Khan 38, Sidra Ameen 23, Nida Dar 22, Nahida Khan 19: Sugandika Kumari 2 for 20, Oshadi Ranasinghe 2 for 23)
- Sri Lanka Women 75 for 8 in 20 overs (Imalka Mendis 25 n.o.: Bismah Maroof 2 for 14)
