Dr. Lester, Sumithra joined to create a film fantasy
‘Vaishnavee’ –‘The Goddess’, Sumithra Peries’ newest film made based on a story by country’s pioneer filmmaker Dr. Lester James Peries is now being screened at 30 cinemas around the country. The film was released on April 5, coinciding with the 99th birthday of Dr. Lester James Peries.
‘Vaishnavee’, revolves around a puppeteer who is arranged to be married to a young girl, but after she elopes with her lover, the grieving man carves a puppet in her likeness that comes to life, setting in motion a fantastical chain of events. The film a fantasy is set in 1930’s Sri Lanka.
‘Vaishnavee’ cast includes Yashoda Wimaladharma, Thumindu Dodantenna, Vasanthi Chathurani, Jayalath Manorathne, Veena Jayakodi, Rohana Baddage, Mahendra Perera and Iranganie Serasinghe.
In the technical crew Donald Karunarathne is the cinematographer, Surangani Wijewickrama is the costume designer and it is the last script written by award winning script writer Tony Ranasinghe.
Released in the CEL circuit, the main theatres it is shown are Regal Colombo, Lido Borella, City Cinema Mt Lavinia, Amity Lite Maharagama, Liberty Lite Kollupitiya, New Imperial Kurunegala, Regal Gampaha, Milano Kegalle and others theatres.
