The Pettah wholesale market is a hive of activity, naatamies scurry hither and thither transporting goods, possibly mirroring scenes taking place country-wide.
Electronic items and cosmetics are in big demand. Traders say electric fans are selling fast, but this may be due to the prevailing heat.
The interiors and exteriors of many shops have been decorated with an eye on the festive season.
However, according to most traders, business for the most part, has been slow.
They are hopeful that during the last week shoppers can be enticed into their shops during the final few days before the New Year, especially with many banks offering generous incentives to shoppers during the season through credit and debit card promotions.
