Kandy’s mobile library service covers 23 wards fortnightly
View(s):Over the past ten years or more, the Kandy Municipal Council has been conducting a mobile library service to the 23 wards within the council limits. The mobile library which has around 8,000 books in circulation, is extremely popular among the public.
The mobile library -a concept of former Kandy Municipal Councillor Ajith de Silva- is staffed by a few persons, but covers all 23 wards of the municipality regularly (once every two weeks). The service is conducted at particular government offices and other pre-nominated venues. The service is popular among the citizenry and the arrival of the mobile service is awaited by residents.
Ms.Shelani Vithane the librarian handling the mobile service believes it is the enthusiastic response of the public which has kept the project relevant.
