Gajaba Regiment Colours Nite for its outstanding sports personnel
The 2nd annual Awards Ceremony of the Gajaba Regiment (GR) of Sri Lanka Army, was held at the Bishops’ College Auditorium in Colombo recently, under the patronage of Army Commander Lt.Gen. Mahesh Senanayake as Chief Guest and former Test Captain Mahela Jayawardene as Guest of Honour, at the invitation of the Colonel of the Regiment, Maj.Gen. Shavendra Silva.
The GR held its 2nd Colours-Awarding Ceremony to give due recognition to 101 Sportsmen/women for their achievements in various Sports.
Former Colonel of the Regiments, Military Secretary, Maj.Gen. Priyantha Jayasundara, Council Members, Director General Sports, Maj.Gen. Anura Sudasinghe, Brig. Devinda Perera, Brig. Sumith Athapattu, Senior Officers of the Regiment, Commanding Officers, Officers, Regimental Sergeant Majors and family members of the awards recipients graced the grand ceremony.
Former Colonel of the Regiment, (Rtd) Lt.Gen. Jagath Dias, Colonel of the Regiment, Maj.Gen. Shavendra Silva and former Test Captain Mahela Jayawardena presented the Colours.
Army Chief Lt. Gen. Mahesh Senanayake presented the awards of the final segment of the event and the ‘Silver Keteri’ awards for Best Achievements displayed by the Keterians in the field of Sports at National and International level.
