The Edwards claimed the win of the main race

The Royal Turf Club (RTC) set off its April Holiday Season Horseracing calendar with the Easter Sunday Cup Raceday, in which, Santos, ridden by L. Dayalan, bagged the main trophy, at the Racecourse in Nuwara Eliya last Sunday.

Dayalan guided Santos, owned by the Edwards, to edge out Charlemagne, owned by James Mathews, to claim the Wijeya Publications Challenge Trophy, in the Class 1 and 2 Handicap Race of 1,600 metres. With the win, Santos also claimed a prize money of Rs 250,000 on offer. Third place was claimed by Silver Streak, owned by Deepthika Jayakody.

The Edward Collection Challenge Trophy for Class 3 Handicap Horses in the 1,400-metre race, was won by Glittering, ridden by Irvan Singh, followed by Gazaki and Arabian Gold.

Jockey Singh was also successful in guiding Stormont to claim the Ministry of Skills & Vocational Training Challenge Trophy for Class 4 Horses, over 1,070 metres. Another Ace and Vigorous came 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Zulu Fantasy won the Class 4 race

Earlier in the day, champion jockey Dayalan warmed up for the big one, by riding Zulu Fantasy to victory, to claim the RTC Easter Sunday Cup in the HandicapRrace for Class 5 Horses, over 1,400 metres. Krabi and Cosmopolitan came 2nd and 3rd respectively.

RTC’s April Holiday Season Races will continue with the month’s most anticipated Raceday on April 15, which promises to be an eventful day.
