Pioneer Film Exhibitor uses modern technology to promote cinema
The management of City Cinema – Mount Lavinia, is one of the leading film exhibitors which uses new technology to promote cinema.

It is the only cinema which has two digital cutouts fixed on both sides of the cinema. While giving a colourful presentation attracting cinema lovers to the films that are being shown in the theatres, the project also has slashed the cost of printing the huge cut outs. The digital display was installed in 2015 and this is also a great relief to the film producers and the suppliers who otherwise had to provide expensive cutouts.
However the theatre owner Pradeep Nishantha Mohottige, who is also an enthusiastic lover and promoter of cinema, does not forget the traditional methods of publicity.
He prints hundreds of posters and pastes around the city whenever a new movie arrives.
The City Cinema also has modern facilities such as 100 reclining seats, air conditioning, 2K Digital cinema with 5.1 surround sound system and large screen. The theatre also has a free basement car park with ample space and a cinema canteen with products sold at reasonable prices. The cinema is located on the Mount City building 4th floor where lift facility is available in Mount Lavinia where Nolimit & Cargills Food City are located. Currently screening times are 10.30 am, 1.30 pm, 7.00 pm for Sinhala films, 4.15 pm for English or Hindi films and 9.30 pm for Tamil or Hindi films.
The proud owner of the cinema is Nishantha Pradeep Mohottige, an award winning film editor, producer and cinema technician. He he is also the current Secretary of the Film Exhibitors’ Association. He is the son of late Mr. Meryll Albert Producer Director of “Dahakin Ekek” and “Api Denna” and he also operates New Janaki cinema – Mathugama.
