Kandy city residents have urged the newly appointed Municipal Council to take up as a matter of urgency the lack of a proper drainage system in the town.
As these photographs show when it rains the drains get blocked and there is no outlet for the rainwater.

Residents complain that during the past two years the municipality went on a building spree but paid very little attention to the lack of a proper stormwater network. The pictures featured here show an inundated area following just half an hour of rain and the ensuing traffic block. The site is ironically close to the vicinity of the municipality.
