Teachers defying transfer orders: CTU

View(s):

The Ceylon Teachers Union (CTU) claims that teachers with over 10 years service in popular National schools are refusing to abide by the transfer notices issued to them. CTU General Secretary Joseph Stalin said that around 25 teachers continue to report to the same school they have been teaching in, despite the transfer notices issued to them. He claimed they are backed by teachers and principals of the old school. He said, “This has caused redundancy in the old schools while the schools they were posted to suffer teacher shortage.”

It is learned that these ‘non-complying’ teachers have appealed to the Ministry of Education (MoE) for reconsideration, while continuing to report to their old schools.  The CTU had taken up the matter with the MoE Secretary, with measures to stop salary payments, discussed, if they do not report immediately.
The MoE effected around 8,000 transfers from the beginning of this year, in tiers, from primary, secondary and Advanced Level classes. - CC
