Nuwara Eliya bedecked in flowers once again
View(s):It’s that time of the year when Nuwara Eliya blooms and flower growers show off their gardening skills. One of the most looked forward to seasonal events in Little England, the annual floral competition, was organised by the Municipality and private institutions,as part of the Vasantha Udanaya festival.
The competition categories usually include the best cut flower arrangement, best lawn, best flower garden, best hedge etc.
The event was inaugurated by Plantations Minister Navin Dissanayake. Nuwara Eliya Mayor Chandnalal Karunaratne, PC Councillor D.M.M. Piyasiri, Government Agent, Nuwara Eliya, Rohan Pushpakumara, the Municipal Commissioner, ASP, Nuwara Eliya, Mahinda Dissanayake among others attended the event too.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe presided over a ceremony to cut a larger than life potato cake weighing 380 kg. and 111 metres long prepared by 50 chefs of the Grand Hotel, Nuwara Eliya.
The cake reportedly cost Rs. 310,000.
