Celebrating International Jazz Day
View(s):“Jazz Unlimited” will celebrate International Jazz Day on May 6 at the CR & FC club house from 4.15pm onwards. According to a release, local jazz artistes will be featured in special performances on the day serving up different styles and forms of presentation, including mainstream and contemporary jazz, and jazz blended with funk and Latin beats.
The seventh annual International Jazz Day will be celebrated worldwide on April 30, 2018 in Saint Petersburg, Russia . Saxophonist Herbie Hancock and Igor Butman (Russia) will serve as artistic co-directors of the all-star concert alongside John Beasley (USA) who will serve as the evening’s musical director. To celebrate the day, more than 190 countries are anticipated to host events across the globe.
In November 2011, following a favourable recommendation by the 187th Executive Board, UNESCO’s General Conference officially proclaimed April 30 as International Jazz Day, recognizing jazz as “a means to develop and increase intercultural exchanges and understanding between cultures for the purpose of mutual comprehension and tolerance.” The United Nations General Assembly formally recognized International Jazz Day on its official calendar in December 2012.
