Milk powder price hike likely
View(s):An increase in prices of imported full cream milk powder is being considered by a Cabinet sub committee, in the wake of Friday night’s increase in the price of cooking gas.
Consumer Authority Chairman Hasitha Thilakaratne said an increase in the price of imported full cream milk powder was being considered, but he could not say when it would be announced. Imported milk powder prices were last increased one and half years ago.
The chairman said that from yesterday, the price of a 12.5 kg cylinder of cooking gas was increased by Rs 245. He said the two cooking gas importing companies had claimed they were operating at a loss. One of the companies has asked for a price increase of Rs. 480 and the other Rs. 285.
