12 successful Coaches awarded Certificates
View(s):The Level 1 Coaching Course 2018 for 21 Coaches was concluded successfully at the Ministry of Sports in Colombo, from April 20-24, with certificates awarded at a ceremony held on the final day, with Director General Sports, Buwaneka Herath as Chief Guest.
The Course was conducted by the Modern Pentathlon Federation of Sri Lanka (MPFSL), with support from the Ministry of Sports (MoS) and facilitated by the international body of Modern Pentathlon, UIPM which provided a resource person, Dmytro Kirpulianskyi, who is a UIPM Coaching Consultant, qualified Medical Doctor, an Olympian representing Ukraine in Modern Pentathlon, and member of the UIPM Athletes Committee.
“The MoS rendered immense support for this course, with a grant, premises for holding the sessions, and logistics during the 5 days of the Course,” said MPFSL President Nishanthe Piyasena.
The Coaches were trained in theoretical classroom sessions, practical sessions and outdoor sessions for running, swimming, fencing and shooting. They then went through a written and oral interview examination before being certified. Twelve Coaches were certified as Level 1 Coaches until 2021, while 7 Coaches were certified pending another examination in 6 months.
“This is a huge step forward for the sport of Modern Pentathlon in Sri Lanka, as it is in the early stages of development in the country. This will no doubt take the sport to the rural areas of the country and enable Athletes to be properly coached in the sport,” added Mr Piyasena.
The attendees for the Course were National Coaches, elite Athletes, MoS officers and Undergraduates studying Sports Science. There were also representatives from the Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Navy and Sri Lanka Air Force, along with Coaches representing Swimming, Fencing and Athletics from islandwide.
