Dark horse Rimzan takes lead after session one
H.A.M. Rimzan of the YMCA turned giant killer when he outwitted much fancied S.H.M. Aslam of Moors SC at the end of the first session of the final of the 65th National Billiards Championship at the Moors Tables at Braybrooke Place, yesterday.
Rimzan was way ahead having chalked to 479 points as against to Aslam’s 272. Rimzan who took up to the game only recently meant business right from the start.
In his run up to the final he produced giant killing performances — beating experienced players in the likes of M.M. Mubeen, a former runner-up; whom he overcame in the pre- quarter final and S.S. Dinuruwan in the quarter final.
Aslam on the other hand is the most experience player in this year’s championship and was the favourite to lift the title.
Now with a deficit of 193 runs he will have pull out all the tricks out of his bag in the second session if he is seeking to win the national title for the first time.
Earlier, in the clash for the third M.M. Jiffrey of YMBA Galle coasted to a comfortable win over P. Guruge of Galle CC.
