My hard work rewarded!
My first term exam was getting nearer and I had to study for twelve subjects! When the days passed I was getting more worried that I will not be able to get good marks for any of the subjects. So I studied as hard as I could without stopping any extra-curricular activities.

At last the day came when I had to do my first exam of the term. Over the next few days I sat for Maths, English, Science etc. After all the subjects had finished I was relieved and curious to know my marks. Finally I got marks for all my subjects and I had got above 75 for everything!!! I was really happy because only seven other students and I were chosen to receive the report of excellence. On the last day of the term there was an assembly where the principal presented the report of excellence to the students including me!

After that the day ended and the holiday started. I had a treat from my parents for all the hard work I had done.
It was a trip to Nuwara Eliya with my whole family which
I really enjoyed! I was really happy because all my hard work paid off!

I am a blackboard

I am a blackboard.
I occupy a special place on the wall of a classroom which is very airy and beautiful. Little children come to study in this classroom. I love to watch them while they sit facing me. The teacher writes the date on my left side. After that she writes many other things on me. I eagerly wait for the next morning so that I can meet the children again. I am proud to be a blackboard.

What I think about animal rights
Some believe that animals should be
treated well and have similar rights that humans do, whereas others think that it is important to use them as we desire for food and other purposes.

With regard to the exploitation of animals, people believe it is acceptable for several reasons. Firstly, they think that humans are the most important beings on the planet and that everything must be done to ensure human survival. Furthermore, it is believed by some that animals do not feel pain as humans do.

However, I do not believe so. It has been shown on numerous occasions by secret filming in laboratories via animal rights groups that animals feel as much pain as humans do and that they suffer when they are kept in cages for a long time. In addition a substantial amount of animals are used for research. Newly found medicines and cosmetics are first tried out on animals and it is revealed that a large amount of animals die due to infections during these processes.

I think that it is not fair to conduct experiments on animals to make sure a product or procedure is safe for us. There is no legitimate reason that an animal’s life is worth less that our own. Although some argue that killing animals for food and research is ethical, I think that animals should be provided with similar rights that humans possess because they too feel and experience emotions. So I think steps must be taken to improve animal rights.

The Sun
The biggest star is the Sun. The sun is the hottest star.
The sun is near Mercury. Without the sun plants can’t live. The sun gives us light and heat. The sun is a large ball of fire. The sun is far away from the earth. The sun gives us Vitamin D. The sun is in the Solar System.

Friendship
There are many valuable things in life, but friendship may be one of the most important. To live without the experience of friendship , is a life without living. Human interaction is a necessity to survival, but developed friendships are essential to successful wellbeing of anyone.
A definition for friend is “a person whom one knows, likes and trusts. “A definition for friendship is according to one’s own thoughts and notions. Different people expect different friendship qualities in nature. It is best to recognize and appreciate different kinds of friends in life.

A trip that I went on
During the last school vacation we went on a picnic to Nuwara Eliya. We went by
a private bus. There were about thirty for this trip. It was a one-day trip.

We left Kurunegala at about 6 o’clock in the morning. On our way to Nuwara Eliya we visited the milk factory at Ambewela. We had our breakfast there. We reached Nuwara Eliya at about 1 p.m. We rested for some time and had our lunch. We visited Horton Plains, World’s End and Baker’s Falls. On our way we saw several other waterfalls too.

We started our return journey at about 5 p.m. We reached Kurunegala at about 1 a.m. We will never forget this enjoyable trip. I liked this trip very much. Thank you all who came for this trip. I enjoyed this trip very much.
