Sri Lanka Foundation, one of the leading educational institutions to teach the art of audio and visual medium will start courses on editing and camera for television soon.

A certificate course in Non Linear Editing has been designed with the aim to provide basic knowledge and working experience in video editing. This 6-month course would be bilingual- in English and Sinhala languages and school leavers, media unit editors and any new comers can join it.

Conducted by veteran cinema artiste M.D. Mahindapala and B.N.C. Amarajeewa, the objectives of the course are to provide basic knowledge and working experience in video editing. After the completion of the course each participant will be able to work as an assistant editor and they will be able to learn intricacies of the trade under the guidance of a senior editor to become fully fledged film and video editor.

Although the course is designed for the new comers it is also suitable for professional editors, producers and production assistants with less experience and offers proper training to further their knowledge and expertise. There will be no assessment process for the course. A certificate of participation will be issued to those who attend 80% of the duration of the course.

Contents of the course include familiarisation of equipment and workflow in editing, editing software familiarisation, editing exercises, grammar of editing, history of the moving image, working with sound, after effects basics, shooting for editing and written examination and evaluation.

The course fee is Rs. 39,000 and could be paid on installment basis.

Another course scheduled to be started soon is ‘Certificate Course in Camerawork in TV’ and the course director is M.D. Mahindapala.

The course is aimed to provide basic knowledge and working experience related to camerawork.

The four-month course could enhance the knowledge of those already working in media institutions and would be a good opening for those new comers who are aiming to start a career and have a passion in the television art.

The bilingual course is conducted in English and Sinhala and after completion of the course each participant will be able to work as a camera assistant with a television crew. Although the course is designed for the new comers, it is also suitable for professional camera persons, producers and production assistants to acquire a methodical training to further their knowledge and expertise. There will be no assessment process for the course. A certificate of participation will be issued to those who attend 80% of the course duration.

The course fee is Rs. 48,000.00 and could be paid in installment basis.
