8th SAARC Film Festival 2018 – Sri Lanka
The SAARC Cultural Centre continues its tradition of bringing wider recognition for South Asian films by presenting the 8th SAARC Film Festival 2018 in Sri Lanka. The SAARC Film Festival had been held every year since 2011.
This year the SAARC Film Festival will take place from May 22 – 27, with the opening ceremony on May 22, a Masterclass on the 25th and the Film Awards Ceremony on the 27th at the Cinema Hall of the National Film Corporation, Colombo 7. The festival will screen a minimum of 26 films with a combination of feature films, short films and master films.
‘Aganthukaya’ and ‘Bahuchithawadiya’ from Sri Lanka, ‘Serga Mathang’ from Bhutan, ‘Salute’ from Pakistan, ‘GI’ and ‘Kshitij’ from India, ‘Khacha’ from Bangladesh, and ‘Status’ from Maldives, are some of the films to be screened. A children’s film named “Poorna” from India will also be screened during this year’s Festival.
The Masterclass, a key event of the festival is conducted by the Jury Members at the Sri Lanka Media Training institute (SLMTI), Colombo 7. A reputed panel of international judges selects the best films and recognizes the individuals who are at the very core of this creativity as a form of encouragement for the Region.
The SAARC Film Festival 2018 Jury members this year are: Paolo Bertolin, a festival programmer and film critic, Han Sunhee, a filmmaker, professor of International Film Business Academy of Busan Asian Film School and Amable Tikoy Aguiluz, award winning Filipino film director, film producer, screenwriter and cinematographer.
