My country
My country is Sri Lanka. It is known as the ‘Pearl of the Indian Ocean’. It is a very beautiful country. My country is divided into provinces and districts. The president is Mr. Maithripala Sirisena and the prime minister is Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe.
My country is independent. We celebrate Independence Day on February 4. My country has many races such as Sinhala, Tamil, Muslim and Burgher etc. There are many religions such as Buddhism, Christianity and Islam etc. Many religious festivals are also celebrated. Vesak, Poson, Christmas, Deepavali and Ramazan are a few examples.

Beautiful places like Sigiriya and Adam’s Peak make my motherland look magnificent. These places also attract many tourists. There are different kinds of animals and zoos in my country. The main language spoken in Sri Lanka is Sinhala.
Tamil and English are also spoken.
In my opinion, Sri Lanka is the best country in the world. May our small island look more and more magnificent and become developed in a few more years time!

The past
I loved the past it was so fun,
Last time we could even play under the sun,
The past was cool, the past was the best,
We even didn’t have time to go in and rest.

We would go outside from dawn till night,
But not at all, no single fight,
I loved the past, it was so fun,
I wish we could go back under the sun.

The TV has put a great curse on us,
Now we’re making a great big fuss,
Now I think that the end is here,
Now we’re in trouble, in a great big fear.
Oh my, oh dear,
Isn’t anyone here?

My journey to Galle
I went on a trip to Galle with my mother and sister. We went in an express-way bus.
We left Colombo at 9 a.m. We were so happy.

When we went there, I went to the beach and stayed there for two hours. The waves rolled to the beach and splashed water on us. We had so much fun. Then we had lunch. My sister and I had ice-cream and went for a walk. Then we visited the museum.

It was interesting to see the old exhibits in the museum. We went through an exit but couldn’t find the place where our mother was waiting for us. We thought that we got lost! We were excited and finally found our way and joined our mother at last.
Then my sister walked into a shop and bought a souvenir for us. My sister had come back from Canada after many years. We enjoyed ourselves on our holiday in Galle.

Late in the evening my father came to pick us and we went back home.

Martin’s Mice by Dick King Smith
Martin is a cat. Martin the cat is quite different to the other cats. Martin hates killing and eating mice. In fact he loves and adores mice. One day he meets a mouse called ‘Drusilla’. Martin keeps Drusilla as a pet.
This book is an interesting and
unusual book. I enjoyed this book because it is quite funny and interesting. This book tells us just because you are a cat, you do not have to kill or eat mice.
Dick King Smith brings out this fact quite interestingly in this book. This book also tells us about having good friendships. The author also brings out the fact that it doesn’t matter whether you are big or small, a cat or a mouse or any other animal can be friends with each other.
I think this book teaches us many good things such as friendship, kindness, caring etc. I also think that Martin is a very loving and caring friend.
We can understand this because Drusilla is a small mouse and she can’t go finding food and water alone because the other cats might eat her, so Martin supplies food and water for Drusilla.
I really enjoyed this book. It is one of my favourite books.

How I spent my first term holiday
In my first term holiday, I went to Water World. It was a beautiful place.
I went to Water World with my mother, my father, sister and my cousins. In Water World there were lots of fishes. I saw different kinds of fish. The fish that I like most was the Gold Fish.

There was a big park for children to play and an ice-cream shop. We enjoyed the slide very much. My friends and I ate ice-cream too. We were having lots of fun and I was very excited to see the baby shark. There were many baby sharks in the tank.
I enjoyed my vacation very much with my friends. It was one of my best holidays.

My pet
I have a white coloured, furry pet cat. Since I am a single child, my parents decided to get me a pet. They asked me if wanted a rabbit or a cat and I instantly chose the cat.
My father took me to a pet shop and my heart went pounding for this little kitten with grey ears. We brought it home and since then it has been with us. I call him Tippie.
Tippie has become a part of our family. I play with it in our house and also take it out to the park every evening. I bathe it twice a month with the help of my mother. Bathing sessions are fun for both me and Tippie. We love looking after Tippie and we also take good care of his diet. We bring home special cat food for him. I love my pet cat.

Trees
Trees are green. Trees are big. Trees are tall. They give us medicine. They give us food. They give us flowers. They give us rain. They give us shade. They give us timber. They protect the water in the soil. We must protect trees.
We must love trees a lot.

Evolution of the world
There are seven continents around the globe. At the beginning of the earth there was only one supercontinent. The earth’s crust is made up of ‘plates.’ They are always moving up and down. This movement caused the continent to change its shape. During the Triassic age the supercontinent began to break. Cretaceaus age land masses we know today began to appear.

I like to be a butterfly
At first I was a tiny egg on the Veralu tree in the garden. Then I became a little caterpillar one day. Then there were so many brothers and sisters with me sticking to the bark of the Veralu tree.
One day I felt like walking to another place. All of my brothers and sisters dispersed throughout the branches of the tree. I started making a cocoon with the string that came out of my body. Soon I was inside of a grey colour cocoon.
After spending three days inside the cocoon, I became a beautiful butterfly.
My wings were very large and attractive.
I enjoyed flying from one flower to another. My friends and I lived in a small forest for a long time.

What a world is this
Darkness removes,
If there is light…
Sound removes,
If there is quietness…
Sweat removes,
If there is wind…
Heat removes,
If there is cold…
Worse thing removes,
If there is a better thing…
Like that, the world had already
Made and planned !!!
