A Cricket Captain’s dream is to have his school play in Division I, which was fulfilled by none other than Randeera Krishan Ranasinghe, the Skipper of St. Anne’s College, Kurunegala. He brought glory to the College by leading his school to the Division II finals, which saw them promoted to Division I.

Having started his cricketing career at age 12, as an Under (U)-13 player, he was groomed to lead the Ist XI team. For his excellent performances on the field, Ranasinghe’s proudest moment as a cricketer was his selection to represent Sri Lanka U19 team in 2017, for the Asia Cup, and was a standby for the 2018 U-19 World Cup.

This cricketer from the rock capital contributed hugely for his school, scoring over 900 runs and capturing over 60 wickets. An elegant right-handed batsman, he is a treat to watch when he gets going. A batsman with a sharp eye, he gets into stride soon, playing the bowling according to its merits, with precision and power.

A top class seamer, Ranasinghe troubled many a recognised batter with his crafty variations and movement. more often than not, he is responsible for making the initial breakthrough, enabling the other bowlers to make inroads. A gutsy Captain, never afraid to accept a challenge. Leading from the front, Ranasinghe got the best out of his players which enabled the team attain the higher Division.

This fine all-round cricketer added another feather to his cap when he was adjudged Man of the Match in their Big Match against Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala, leading his alma mater in the 150th anniversary of the school.

According to Ranasinghe, his climb to the present position would not have been possible without the guidance and support from the Principal Rev. A.E. Tarcicious, his Coaches, Masters-in-Charge and his parents and especially, present Coach Chanaka Ediriweera.

This devoted cricketer’s aim is to represent his country. Ranasinghe counts his selection as Runner-Up in the Emerging Schools’ Cricketer of the Year, a great achievement in his cricketing career.
