A trip to Anuradhapura
At last the day dawned. It was Friday, February 23. It was the day we were going on a trip to Anuradhapura. All the Grade 9 classes altogether.
I got up early in the morning. My mother had made sandwiches for me. My bag was packed and ready. We were at the Fort Station by 3 a.m. My father took me to the station by car. Lots of other children were already at the station. There were about 450 children and
13 teachers. We got into the carriage of the train. The guard blew the whistle and waved the green flag and the train began to move out of the station.
We reached Anurahdapura at about 9.30 a.m. First we went to the Mirisawetiya Dagoba and the worshipped at the Ruvanweliseya. A guide told us about the ruins and the past history of the temples. The army had constructed a large tent near the Mirisawetiya temple. They had arranged for us to have lunch there. After lunch we visited the Jetawanaramaya temple and the Jaya Sri Maha Bodiya where we had a Bodhi Pooja.
After visiting all the sacred places, we came back to the Anuradhapura Railway Station. We boarded the train and came back to Colombo.
It was a very interesting and educational trip and we are grateful to the teachers who took us on this trip. It was really an unforgettable experience.

The moon
The moon is the only satellite of the earth.
The moon orbits the earth from 384,400 km. The moon is the second brightest object in the sky after the sun. The moon has no atmosphere. The moon shines at night. It does not have its own light. The light from the moon is cool. The moon reflects the light from the sun. The moon rotates on its axis 27 – 28 days. Every night it changes its shape and size. The full moon is very glorious.
The first spacecraft to perform a successful lunar soft landing was Lunar 9. In July 1969, American astronauts Edwin Aldrin and Neil Armstrong were the first men to set foot on the moon.
There are many stories about the moon.

How I spent my first term holiday
I got up at 6 o’clock and brushed my teeth. Then my grandmother decided to go to Wattala. There are so many fields. There is a katakurudu tree also. We climbed that tree. I met friends called Aloka, Sanidu and Vihara.
In the evening we went to Nandani Aunty’s home. There was so much grass. We played with their friends and we slept there. In the morning we got up and came to Sanidu’s home, then we went to pears field and we plucked the fruits. We went to the waterfall to bathe with my family and friends.
Then in the morning we went to Yasodara Aunt’s. There was a small nangi called Savini. She’s a small cute baby. It is a big house. Then we went to a restaurant and ate biriyani. It was so tasty. On the last day we came back in the evening at 10 o’clock.
I enjoyed my first term holiday.
