Defending champions Navy SC makes it to the quarters
Defending champions Navy SC ‘A made their presence felt when they made it to the quarter finals of the Dialog Inter-Club Rugby 7’s Cup segment on day one with an unbeaten record as they came out on top in Group ‘A’ after the completion of the round robin matches played at the Racecourse ground in Reid Avenue yesterday.
The defending champions recorded convincing wins against Air Force ‘B’ and their ‘C’ team before pulling off a close win against Army SC A. In the other groups saw last year runner up Havelock SC and Kandy SC being assured of a quarter final berth in the Cup segment having won their two matches that they played. The two teams are due to play the final match of Group ‘B’ to decide will top the group.
Meanwhile their was a clean tussle going on in the Group ‘C’ category but Navy SC ‘B’ is in line to be one of the two teams to book the berth to the Cup quarter final having so far won both their matches while CH & FC ‘A’ and Air Force ‘A’ looks the two teams that would qualify from Group ‘D’.
In the women’s tournament where four teams are participating, Army SC and Navy SC won their two matches to qualify to the final.
The tournament organised by the Sri Lanka Rugby Union and sponsored by Dialog Axiata is being contested by 16 teams divided into four groups of four teams in each.
