DSS Rookie wicketkeeper Teron Baskaran stands tall behind the stumps
Behind the stumps, this rookie wicketkeeper’s presence is a reassuring one to the side’s bowlers, which boosts their confidence immensely. A wicketkeeper with fine footwork, excellent body movements and a sharp eye has 33 dismissals of 26 catches and 7 stumpings.
From his vantage point behind the stumps, Baskaran reads the batsman at the wicket and advises the bowler accordingly, while his overall view of the field enables him the advantage of fine tuning field settings. Speaking to the Sunday Times, Baskaran said “He always goes for a match to give off his best to the team, be it batting or wicketkeeping.
A great team man and a rock behind the stumps, Baskaran’s will be available to DSS for at least another 2 years, during which his ensuing experience and knowledge will be much sought after.
Walking into the Ist XI Cricket team from the Under 15 team, he has taken the ascent in his stride, with the encouragement and support of the seniors, to be an asset to the side. In doing so, he has had a big share in DSS’s achievements this year.
This budding champion wicketkeeper’s aim is to represent the Sri Lanka Under 19 team at the 2020 Junior Cricket World Cup.
