Future of advertising in the hands of the youth
View(s):While advertising plays a pivotal role in today’s corporate success stories, the future of the industry is purely dependent on the youth of the country, a top Ad agency head commends.
Ranil De Silva, founder of Metal Factor, made this remark at a media briefing held at the Renuka Hotel in Colombo on Wednesday. The briefing was held to announce the nine young professionals who will represent Sri Lanka at the Cannes Lions International Festival in June this year in France. “Future of advertising is in the hands of the youth of the country. They have the potential and creative ideas that come out from various advancements in modern technology,” he added.
He also mentioned that Cannes Lions International Festival of creativity is the world’s most prestigious advertising festival where nine local teams will showcase their skills and knowledge in a global competition.
International Advertising Association Sri Lanka President, Laila Gunasekara said that at the festival the local teams will receive exposure and acquire new skills and insights, which they will be able to use, to infuse a fresh burst of creativity into the local industry. They will be able to learn from and interact with movers and shakers of the advertising world, who are redefining the global communications landscape. The experience will certainly have a profound impact on their professional growth, she added.
At this years’ local Young Lions Competition three teams emerged victorious after a rigorous evaluation process in the Media, PR and Print categories. A total of 96 professionals participated in the local competition. There were two winners in the Young Marketer’s Competition and a winner was selected to attend the Roger Hatchuel Academy.
Heralded as the ‘Olympics of the advertising world’, the Cannes Lions International Festival draws the best talent from all corners of the globe. The competitions run across multiple categories and provides youth in the industry with a once-in-a-life time opportunity to compete against each other, whilst learning and broadening their horizons.
The competition is only open for professionals who are 30 years and below. Over 15,000 delegates from 100 countries attend the festival, making it the only global meeting place for communications professionals to connect, share and discover the latest advancements, trends and innovations in the industry.
