One of the safest pair of hands in Schoolboy Cricket
‘Runner-up- All Island Best Fielder’- Sachintha Ravindu of St. Joseph’s College, Colombo, expects every ball to come his way, enabling him to maintain his concentration while on the field. This focus and attitude paid off with above accolade.
With 48 catches to his credit, it speaks volumes for the confidence it gives the bowlers to be inspired. A complete cricketer, Ravindu is a useful middle order left-hand batsman, scoring over 600 runs this season. He has the ability to rise to the occasion, while being capable of keeping wickets should the need arise.
This agile fielder with a sharp eye, follows the ball from the bat, so that, his sense of anticipation is on high alert. Always moving back and forth from his position, while the bowler returns to his mark, keeps him on his toes.
Ravindu is always relaxed, though alert, on the field and never panics when the ball comes to him, in the air or, along the ground. Fields mostly in the mid-off and mid-on regions in the opening overs, and shifts to close catching positions, when the spinners are operating. A versatile fielder, be it close in or, out in the deep
His technique and positioning in ground fielding and catching, is the secret to his success. Winning School Colours in his first year, Ravindu expects to score over 800 runs in the coming season, while his fielding will not only bring wicket, but also save valuable runs.
His ambition is to represent the country at national level.
