Family of former principal killed in training accident awarded insurance money

The Education Ministry has awarded Rs.2mn to the family of the former Principal of Suchi National College, Hambantota, Rohini Kumari Atapattu. Mrs. Atapattu was killed in an accident while taking part in a leadership training programme in February, this year.
The cheque was handed over to Mrs. Atapattu’s husband, Thilakaratne Abeysinghe by Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam at the Education Ministry premises on Thursday (14).

The money which was awarded was under the National Insurance Trust Fund (NITF). A group of officials from Sri Lanka Insurance were also present on the occasion as representatives of the NITF. Under the 2016 Government Budget Proposals, two new insurance policies known as ‘Gold’ and ‘Silver’ were introduced under the Agrahara insurance scheme for State sector employees. Mrs. Atapattu had entered into the ‘Gold’ policy.
