Dialog 4G-the Sunday Times Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year 2018
View(s):In three more days, cricketers from all parts of the country, boys and girls, are set to gather at the BMICH main hall in Colombo to receive their honour for all the hard work put on the field during the ended school cricket season.
The date is fixed for June 20, Wednesday, for the Dialog 4G-the Sunday Times Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year 2018 awards ceremony. A total of 53 awards are to be given away among 264 award winners in individual and team categories representing All-Island, Emerging and Girls’ schools . To witness the night top cricket officials, school administrators, parents and supporters are expected to turn out in numbers.
The cynosure of the night will be on allrounder Kamindu Mendis, who will be crowned as the Dialog 4G-the Sunday Times Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year 2018. Mendis a gifted allround cricketer, who has led his school Richmond College, Galle and the Sri Lanka Under-19 team at the ICC Youth World Cup 2018, has already shown great potential of becoming a cricketing future star at national and international levels.
To recognise the talents of the young and aspiring school cricketers of both gender, Sri Lanka Cricket, Chairman of Selection Committee – Graeme La Brooy – will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest. La Brooy, himself an aspiring cricketer during his schooldays for Maris Stella College, Negombo, was an inspiration for schoolboy cricketers being one of those who joined the cricket mainstream from an outstation school. La Brooy would surely have important things to share with the youngsters.
As last year, event partners Dialog Axiata has set all plans afoot with Wijeya Newspapers and the Sunday Times to dish out a memorable event, that would be talked about for days to come. Providing glamour and excitement will be the event itself, which promises a one-of-a-kind experience to all attendees with Dialog Axiata adopting the latest high-tech activities to make it an unforgettable event.
Surprises will be many come Wednesday, as all participants are promised with good entertainment too. Line One will provide good music during the four hours of the event as Kavindya Adhikari, Nadimal Perera and Shane Zing are expected to sing for the crowd. The Island Stompers Dance Troupe will give all a whole new experience in dancing, while veteran compere Faizal Bongso will take the honour of being the master of ceremony yet again with the assistance of Umayangana Wickramasinghe, a famous actress and announcer.
The Sunday Times has made all arrangements to publish a special pullout with pictures and details of all winners with the Wednesday (June 20) issue of Daily Mirror. The pullout includes all information about the winners as well as the event and a limited number of copies will be available free at the BMICH.
