Railways official receives doctorate
View(s):Mr Wijaya Samarasinghe, Additional General Manager (Operations), Railways Department was awarded Doctor of Philosophy at the convocation held at Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University in Thailand recently.
He received his primary education at Ananda College, Colombo performing well in his studies and extra curricular activities including athletics, and functioning as Chief Secretary in the Buddhist Association and as a prefect supervisor.
He obtained a Special B Comm (Honours) Degree from the University of Colombo and a Master of Arts Degree. He was President of the University’s Buddhist Brotherhood as well as President of the University Buddhist Federation. He was in the Sri Lankan delegation for the University Leadership Camp held in Japan.
He was awarded the Vice Chancellor’s Award for Best Student in the University of Colombo and the ‘Samarasekara Mudalindu Peace Prize’ at the general convocation.
Mr Samarasinghe has served the Railways Department for 36 years in various capacities including Assistant Transportation Superintendent, Transportation Superintendent, Commercial Superintendent and Director of National Railway Museum. He is also the Deputy President of the Railway Literary Sports and Social Institute. He serves as Director and Chairman of the Railway Operating and Transport Management Training Institute.
