Celebrating the French Spring Festival 2018, monthly movie screening will feature ‘Django’ on July 4 and July 11 at Majestic City at 7 pm.

The screenings are on the occasion of the monthly “rendez-vous” Bonjour Cinéma! and to revive the Fête de la Musique, the French Spring Festival 2018.

Directed by Etienne Comar, ‘Django’ is a biographical film of the famous gypsy jazz musician Django Reinhardt. With Reda Kaleb in the lead role and Cécile de France, the film was presented in 2017 at the opening of the Berlinade, the Berlin Film Festival. The story takes place in Paris in 1943 during the German occupation.

The gypsy Django Reinhardt is at the height of his glory. Every night, he makes his audience vibrate to the rhythm of his guitar at the Folies Bergères, while in Europe, his brothers are hunted down and massacred. On July 4 the session will be free and open to all.

On July 11, before the screening of the film, the gypsy jazz band Mediterranean Guitar Duo, composed of Philippe Loli and Léo Giannol, specially on tour in Sri Lanka for the Festival, will play in tribute to Django Reinhardt, considered as one of the greatest musicians of the 20th century.

Django Reinhardt remains today a source of inspiration for many artistes. With these two screenings, the French Spring Festival 2018’s aim is to make the Sri Lankan public, discover the work of this genius.
