Chains – an Indo-Lankan fusion dance production at the Wendt
View(s):After nearly a decade the Lionel Wendt Theatre will witness on its boards a fusion of Sri Lankan and Indian dance styles in a tri-nation collaborative performance on Friday, July 6 at 7.30 p.m. Chains – Love Stories of Shadows is a script to stage production, specifically conceptualised for the purpose of a dance-theatre presentation.
The first Sri Lankan tour of Chains will be presented as an international dance-theatre collaboration between Artistic Director, choreographer and artiste Savitha Sastry of India, Sri Lankan Creative Director Dr Arunthathy Sri Ranganathan and the lead dancers of Aru Sri Art Theatre. It is produced by Sabanitha Shanmugasundaram of Red Creatives, Singapore.
Based on the original story by AK Srikanth, Chains is centred around the protagonist Vichitra. The music score is by Raajkumar Bharathi (great grandson of India’s prolific poet, Mahakavi Bharathiyar).
Savitha Sastry has over the last five years presented Chains in India, China, South Africa and USA as part of its world tour initiative. The production has been re-choreographed for the collaboration in Sri Lanka.
Proceeds from this event will go to the Cerebral Palsy Lanka Foundation and further development and support services for children with Cerebral Palsy and associated movement disorders.
