Glyphosate thro’ CPC
View(s):The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) confirming the Sunday Times report titled “Limited glyphosate for tea, rubber thro’ CPC” published on June 10, 2018 this week detailed the current situation in the importation and distribution of glyphosate in Sri Lanka.
The CPC in a letter states that the Generic Glyphosate registrants must forward a detailed report and necessary documents to the Registrar of Pesticides by June 10.
An evaluation of all these Generic Glyphosate Registrants reports will be finalised by the Registrar of Pesticide on June 22.
Three gazettes will be revised by the Registrar of Pesticides for import approval, the CPC stated adding that the Registrar of Pesticides will have strict control subject to the establishment of a proper monitoring mechanism for over use and misuse of glyphosate together with the Plantation Industries Ministry.
By fulfilling these factors, CPC can engage in this task as a national requirement in a more realistic manner to provide glyphosate for tea and rubber plantations by following the guideline of the Registrar of Pesticides with the Plantation Industries Ministry, the CPC stated.
