Shakespeare Challenge and Excellence 2018
View(s):The Shakespeare Centre Sri Lanka, a premier organisation to promote the works of William Shakespeare, introduces Shakespeare Challenge and Excellence for the Year 2018. The project is an endeavour to promote Shakespearean theatre among students and to provide them with an opportunity to present and develop their knowledge and skills.
Competitions will be held in five different categories: quiz, drama, oratory, essay, and translation; and they will test students in their knowledge an understanding of Shakespearean theatre, skills in portraying Shakespearian characters and scenes as well as their appreciation of Shakespeare. All competitions are based on William Shakespeare’s 37 plays.
“The works of William Shakespeare have for many centuries, established themselves as the most thought provoking and entertaining dramatic creations the world has ever known. The experience of studying a Shakespearean drama is not merely an indulgence in the entertainment it provides but a journey which exposes its students to new depths in philosophical insight, dramatic techniques and literature of the highest quality,” said Obinamuni Gamini De Silva – President of the Shakespeare Centre Sri Lanka.
Teams from schools are invited to take part in the Shakespeare Challenge while undergraduates from universities are invited for Shakespeare excellence 2018. More information and applications for the competition can be obtained by calling 0778516123.
