I want a series win – Lakmal
Suranga Lakmal, the stands tall after his second straight as skipper. Now he is looking for 2-0 series win against touring South Africans.
“We never play for a draw. We play to win.”
“From this stage, we’re going to win the second test. It’s good for us to finish off the series at 2-0 because we can go up in the rankings (with more points). I will tell the team that we should win the second test too” Lakmal said.
The senior pacer gets tremendous support from his teammates but he diverts it back to them. As a result, now Sri Lanka has won back to back test matches, one in the West Indies and another at home.
“Yes, I was the captain, but I cannot win matches all alone. I’ve got to have the support of all eleven players plus the four on bench. They all helped me. I wouldn’t have done that alone”
“As a team we were prepared to face any kind of situation. In the West Indies, I got the captaincy at the very last moment and even here, I was told that I am going to lead the team in the previous night. However, we’ve been there as a team and it was easy for me to take them forward”
“Seniors like Rangana Herath, Dimuth Karunaratne, Angelo and Dilruwan were always with me. In addition to that, I was well supported by the team management. So I think that’s the secret of success” Lakmal said.
