Kottawattai and Mahajana, the best in North

Kottawattai A.M.T.M. School Jaffna and Mahajana College Jaffna emerged Boy’s and Girls’ champions respectively at the ‘Milo Road to Barcelona Sri Lanka Schools Under-12 Football Tournament’ held at the Duraiappa Stadium in Jaffna.

The tournament, part of a nationwide project conducted at provincial level, is organised and conducted jointly by the Ministry of Education and the Sri Lanka Schools Football Association with the sponsorship of Nestle` Lanka’s Milo.

A total of 56 schools from the Northern Province took part in the two-day competition, held on July 2 and 3 for the institutions of the northern region. From the lot 48 were boy’s schools and eight schools represented for the girls’ competition.

Kottawattai A.M.T.M. School came on top in the boy’s segment becoming the best among the 48 boy’s schools that competed. They were able to overcome top contenders, St. John’s College Jaffna and another dark horse in the competition, Manalkadu Roman Catholic Tamil School.

Mahajana College Jaffna were the best among the eight girls’ schools that featured in the competition while Ramanathapuram East Girls’ Tamil School and Manipay Ladies’ College finished second and third respectively.

The programme will continue with the collaboration of Milo, Ministry of Education and the Sri Lanka Schools Football Association across the island, before the competition reaches the national stage.
