East meets West on the ramp in ‘Threads of Time’
View(s):Extravagant Eastern ethnic wear and Western couture will be seen on the ramp when the fashion show ‘Threads of Time’ is presented by Anita Dorai and designer Kavita Thulasidas on September 2 at the Hilton ballroom.
Anita, a Singaporean of Indian origin who now makes her home in Sri Lanka has plans to stage many shows here. Designer, Singaporean Kavita Thulasidas also of Indian origin is the Managing Director of Stylemart Bridal Collection Pvt Ltd.
According to Kavita, ‘Threads of Time’ will have different themes; Mystical and mythological times of celestial beauties; the Grecian and Roman Goddesses of ancient history; the love stories of the Mogul and Rajput Era; the Roaring 20s when fashion entered the modern era, and the Grand Finale with creations encapsulating all four themes!
Presenter Anita Dorai said that proceeds from the show will be in aid of ‘Around the Pearl’ – an initiative by Wheels for Wheels which aims to raise awareness of Cerebral Palsy which affects over 40,000 children in Sri Lanka today. “The proceeds from ‘Threads of Time’ will be used to buy a special type of wheelchair which will greatly enhance the quality of life for those suffering from this dreaded disease. The target set by Wheels for Wheels initially is a 1000 of these special wheelchairs.”
On board as sponsors of this gala event are Mobil One and Porsche, while the Hilton Colombo are Hospitality Partners and Ramani Fernando Salons are Hair and Beauty Partners. Choreography will be by Brian Kerkoven with Imran Saibo of Funtime and Anusha David of Headlines PR handling the logistics of the show.
While the Hilton will lay out a superlative buffet spread, entertainment for the evening will feature popular band Flame and others.
