Access edges-out Sri Lankan to win Shakespeare shield
The Shakespeare Shield presented by Carson Cumberbatch & Co; in 1911, in memory of their Chairman Mr. W. Shakespeare, has being an annual feature event in the Royal Colombo Golf Club since then and is continued to be sponsored by Carson Cumberbatch PLC including the 2018 edition.
The unique feature of the Shakespeare Shield event is that it is played in the Foursome format, restricted to Directors and employees of limited liability companies, Proprietors, Partners and employees of Firms, Employees of a Government Department, Diplomatic personnel and/ or employees of (a) Embassies (b) High Commission (c) Legation (d) Consulates, Representatives and or employees of the same International Mission, Service personnel from the Army, Navy, Air Force or Police.
2018 has being no less competitive than any previous year with 19 partnerships vying for the Shakespeare Shield, played in the Foursome Stableford points basis, one round Stableford best score. The format allows Men and Ladies to combine and partner representing any organisation permitted by the tournament rules.
Access Group represented by Shamal Perera and Ranshan Gomez edged out Damindra Fernando and Milinda Ratnayake, Representing Sri Lankan Airlines on a count back of the better back nine after being tied on a creditable 41 points. The Winner and Runners-up were well clear of the next challengers Ammara Hotels, Dynawash Limited and John Keels Holdings, all three partnerships on 35 points.
