The Jak tree
The Jak tree is one of the famous and important trees in Sri Lanka. It is a large,
tall tree with a lot of small leaves.

Sinhala Buddhists cut a branch of the jak tree at an auspicious time on Sinhala New Year
as a traditional custom. Jak wood is used to manufacture doors, rafters and furniture which is very expensive and lasts long. ‘Waraka’ or ‘Wala’ derived from the jak tree are very nutritious fruits.

Every part of the jak tree is made use of by humans and even animals eat the leaves and fruits.
When I was six years old my mother planted a jak plant and now it has grown large and tall and bears a lot of delicious jak fruit. The jak tree should be protected for the sake of our people and our country and the future generation.

My first camping experience
My first camping experience was in my school, Lyceum International School – Nugegoda. It was held on June 23. It was decorated with lots of games invented by Mr. Nikitha Lanka. The words and camping songs were different than usual language.
We all waited for the games to begin.

The first game we did was ‘Dart Game’. That game was like hunting to improve your own knowledge. The next game was ‘Make your own clay thing’. We were put into groups and my group made a caterpillar. It was such a nice caterpillar. The last game was ‘Water Play’
the most fun game. All the children ran and got wet. So then we went to our classrooms and took our clothes and went to the washroom to change.
At the campfire our parents came and we all lit candles in a coconut shell. Suddenly it rained and everyone ran like stupid buffaloes again. Then we stayed in the school hall.

During the awar ds ceremony our class won first place for best teamwork. We all enjoyed the camp. It was a memorable day in my life. When we are promoted to
Grade Four we hope to go camping again.

Water World
We went on a trip on May 18 to Water World, Kelaniya. It was a rainy day.
Water World was perfect to see birds and fish. There was a small playground for kids. Water World is South Asia’s first underwater tunnel. In the Aquarium we saw different types of fish. Some of them are Angel fish, jellyfish, sharks and water snakes.
There were so many beautiful birds. Some of them were parrots, peacocks, macaw parrots. We enjoyed very well and played in the playground. Water World is the best fish and bird park in Sri Lanka.

Let us save time
The best day to accomplish something is the ‘day before tomorrow.’ This saying teaches us the value of time. The present world is a fast running one. Anyone who fails to keep up with the speed becomes a loser. Therefore, in order to achieve our goals in this complex and fast moving society, we must know how to get the best use of our time.

Most people today neglect punctuality.Punctuality is a must for anyone who wants to save his time. A punctual man not only saves his own time, he saves the times of others as well. Efficiency is another powerful time-saver. An efficient man achieves some task within a short period of time. Sri Lanka is still a developing country. Time is a very important factor to us.

If all of us try our best to save our individual time to some extent, it will be a great contribution towards the development of the country too.
