Marians celebrate 30 years of excellence
Marians, under the leadership of megastar musician and TV personality Nalin Perera alon with the dynamic and creative individuals, celebrated its 30 years of music with double Concerts at the BMICH.
‘Thaala’- Marians live in Concert was held at the BMICH on July 14 and 15 to mark the three decades of music and entertainment.
Passing many milestones along the way and overcoming various challenges, Marians has now marked its acme in the music industry of Sri Lanka winning the hearts of millions both locally and globally.
Marians started off as young school band from St. Mary’s College, Chilaw in 1988. They playing at outdoor shows mainly backing guest artistes in the early 90s. However, it was Nalin’s vision to stand out as a band and to be different in the music industry of Sri Lanka.
Marians managed to set a benchmark in the industry with the introduction of Marians Unplugged concerts in 2006. The incredible high demand for unplugged concerts led to the series of Clarence Unplugged concerts in 2008 following with Kings of 70s concerts which highlighted golden melodies of legendary artistes H R Jothipala and C. T Fernando.
The Marians who started off as a seven member group 30 years ago now comprise of nine extremely talented musicians. Their repertoire of songs is vast and have established as one of Sri Lanka’s most recognised musical outfits, who have introduced a new culture to the Sri Lankan music scene.
Their concept ‘Marians unplugged’ have proved beyond doubt that they are an innovative band. Nalin who has been a frontline singer of the band from the very inception, made a big impact on local entertainment scene with his singing and as a Television presenter and composer later in his career.
‘It was an evening that was filled lots of entertainment with comedy acts and top quality choreography backed by excellent music dished out by ‘The Marians’ to both young and old fans of us’ said Nalin.
The Marians Sound Gear, which was launched in 2004, is highly equipped with modern sophisticated high end and professionally maintained sound reinforcement gear, which delivers a clear and smooth sound to their audiences.
‘We provide music to local and foreign artistes. Supported by an experience engineering team along with a state of the art studio and sound system Marians wraps the music industry single handed. Global multicultural market is our latest target audience. We want to expand our music to conquer the global platform’ he added.
Marians over the years is recognised in the industry to be one of the best musical bands in delivering entertainment at concerts, corporate events, dinner dances, sing-alongs, parties and weddings.
Marians now comprises Nalin Perera- Leader, Prasanna Rosa onlead guitar, Ruwan Fernando on rhythm guitar, Chaminda Silva on bass, Dileepa Mangala on keyboards, Subash Punyasoma on drums, Jayantha Kandabadage- Percussionist, Shehan Jayasooriya- Saxophonist and Shivantha Fernando on vocals.
