The ugly face of tuition classes
View(s):Public spaces at prominent locations including the expensive digital sign boards in Moratuwa are being defaced with posters advertising a variety of tuition masters.
These posters are pasted all over the city, making a mockery of efforts to beautify the town.
Among locations which have been defaced are the boundary wall of the De Zoyza Stadium, boundary walls of schools, as well as the bus stops built by the Western Province Road Passenger Transport Authority at great cost.
Even walls of private residences, bridges, drains and lamp posts have not been spared.
Digital advertising boards at bus stops in the town, ‘Sunday Times’ photographers saw had been rendered useless as they were covered with posters advertising tuition masters/and or tuition classes.
Senaka Damayantha, Opposition Leader of the Moratuwa Urban Council, said a motion he presented to the Council recommending laws be enacted to prevent tuition masters from despoiling the beauty of the town was unanimously carried.
Moratuwa’s Mayor Saman Lal Fernando said as a first step, laws would be introduced allocating specific areas where tuition masters could display their posters.
He added legal action would then be initiated against those who continued to display banners and posters outside the designated areas.
