Johanne, Dinal and Dineth see St. Josephs to a 68 run win
Half tons by Johanne de Silva, Dinal Anuradha and Dineth Jayakody helped St. Joseph’s College clinch a 68 run win over Thurstan college in the second round of the schools Under-17 Division I Cricket Tournament.
The encounter was hosted by Thurstan College on their home ground.
Electing to bat first the Josephian openers made merry smashing 106 runs off 97 balls for the first wicket. Johanne de Silva scored 61 off 48 balls with ten boundaries and a six while Dinal Anuradha went on to score 78 off 119 balls with eleven hits to the ropes.
Dineth Jayakody chipped in with 67 off 77 with seven boundaries and together with Dinal figured in a 90 run partnership for the third wicket. Bawantha Jayasinghe captured three wickets.
Thurstan lost their first wicket without a run on the board and were unable to get the bowlers away as they wished and fell short of 68 runs with two wickets in hand. Prasanna Pushpakumara was unbeaten on 46 Lakshan Gamage, Dineth Anthony and Klenn Kalyanarathna capture two wickets each.
