The Sri Lanka Army’s (SLA) annual international conference, ‘Colombo Defence Seminar 2018′, will be held for the 8th time at the BMICH from August 30-31. Since 2011, it has brought together strategists, intellectuals and stakeholders in an interactive forum to share knowledge, experience, build relationships as well as discuss policies and countermeasures to deal with a diverse threat environment.

This year’s topic, “Security in an Era of Global Disruptions”, shines a light on the evolutionary nature of national security concerns and challenges they pose to statecraft, in an increasingly interconnected and unpredictable world.

Organisers expect up to 800 participants, including 100 foreign delegates. There will be 13 foreign and 14 local speakers. Last year, the seminar was attended by 800 delegates with foreign participants from 35 countries.

President Maithripala Sirisena will be the Chief Guest and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will deliver the keynote address. Defence Ministry Secretary Kapila Waidyaratne will give the opening remarks. Heads of Military of all SAARC countries have been invited.
