Young filmmaker Nuwan Jayathilake’s debut direction ‘Sulanga Apa Ragena Yavi’- ‘The Wind Beneath Us” is to compete at 58th Asia-Pacific Film Festival (APFF 58) this week.

The film has been selected as an official selection for 2018 ‘Best Story’ competition of one of the oldest film festivals in the world. Annually orgnaised by Federation of Motion Picture Producers, films productions from Asia Pacific region will compete for 28 awards. Films from India, Japan, Thaiwan, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Iran, Indonesia and Hongkong are to compete and the winners are to be announced during the first week of September.

The film stars Iranganie Serasinghe, Priyankara Rathnayake, Suranga Ranawaka, Sujeewa Priyalal, Sampath Jayaweera, Anjana Premaratna, Sudam Katukithule, Praveen Katukithule and Semini Hennanayake.

Produced by Maya Nawagattegama, the film won Remi Award : World Fest-Houston (Oldest Independent Film & Video Festival in the world) and Best Feature Film at Metricamente Corto – Festival festival,Italy.

Nuwan Jayathilaka who wrote the screenplay and script stated, “Initial reason behind the making of the film as my first feature film was that I had reached a moment in my life in which I wanted to step out from making short films,”. Nuwan has earlier directed five short film.

“The wind beneath us” tells a story of a family living in rural sri lanka, and the bond between two boys and their white bull, which they rely solely upon for income.
