Though some of the drugs had not reached their expiry period, they bore no manufacturers names. Police sources said over 10,000 tablets were among the stock discovered and were strewn among other waste material.
Sub Inspector M.D. Ranaweera on the direction of OIC Mundalama took the stock of drugs into the custody of the Madurankuliya police.
The police were at a loss as to why the stock of drugs had been discarded.
Chairman of the Putlam Provncial Council Anjana Sandaruwan who visited the site said they are facing a major problem with waste material thrown on either side of the road. He added police would take immediate action to bring the litterbugs to book.
