Colombo-Moratuwa Universities clash for Rowing supremacy
View(s):The 2 giants in University Rowing, University of (UoM) and University of Colombo (UoC) are in for yet another clash at the 35th Inter-University Regatta. The Regatta, dubbed the ‘local Oxford-Cambridge’, and the 2nd oldest Regatta in the country, will be held on September 8 at the Colombo Rowing Club from 12 noon onwards. UoM has been dominant in the last decade, securing a landmark 10th consecutive win last year, with a tally of 9 out of 10 regattas.
Defending champions UoM led by Amidu Silva and coached by Hiran Sellahewa and Shane Silva, look formidable, following impressive performances at National Rowing championships, Club Regattas with 5 Oarsmen representing the Sri Lanka University team at World University Rowing Championships 2018, and securing World Rank 6 in LM4- event.
UoM Crew will be from Supun Nissanka, Damian Perera, Nadeesh Anjana, Sajiththan Subendrarajah, Chathuranga Jayatilake, Chathusha Vidwantha, Jivanka Pathirage, Nadarasar Bahavan, Uditha Gamage, Pulasthi Ekanayake, Dulshan De Silva, Thisara Buddhika, Sudara Randombage.
UoC looking to regain lost prestige, are coached by Christy Aloysius, and will comprise Supun Madhushanka (Captain), Shehan Hettiarachchi, Buddhika Ruwan, Udula Wijayathunga, Rahul kalubowila, Vishwa Karunarathne, Kaneel Dias, Kasun Wijerathne, Sajith Sajan, Sahan Wiratunga, Charith Biyanwila, Dushyantha Hettiarachchi and Kavinda Prabashwara.
In the concurrent Women’s championship, UoC led by Chethana Gallage will look to defend their title against the UoM Women. Major highlights of the team include a Bronze at the National championships and winning the Women’s Sculls event at Head of Beira Regatta.
UoC Team from Kavindya Dharmarathnam, Isuri Perera, Nethmi Danthanarayana, Yasara Kannangara, Lahiru Perera, Upuli Edirisinghe, Pubudhika Gimhani, Hiranya Jayalath, Nadani Mendis and Ranmalee Nanayakkara.
UoM Women will be led by Ashni Dilina with Senuri Dissanayake, Mary Keerthiya, Tharushi Waidyarathne, Rangika Anthony, Naduni Samarasinghe, Apsara Ranathunga, Nimni Tharuni, Kulunu Podinilame and Sajeewa Siriwardena.
