MCA Open 6-a-Side Cricket from Sept.7-9
View(s):The Mercantile Cricket Association’s (MCA) calendar for 2017-’18 comes to a close with the much awaited MCA Open 6-a-Side to be played from September 7-9, for the ‘CDB’ Trophy.
The 2nd Citizens Development Business Finance PLC – ‘CDB’ Trophy –MCA Open 6-a-side Cricket Tournament 2018, has attracted an unprecedented number of 69 entries.
The tournament will be conducted in 2 segments- Tier ‘A’ on turf with 21 teams, and Tier ‘B’ on matting with 48 teams.
On Day 1, the 21 Tier ‘A’ teams, pooled into 9 Groups, will be in action at MCA and Colts Grounds from 8.30 am onwards.
On Day 2, the 48 Tier ‘B’ teams pooled into 16 Groups, will be seen in action at MCA, Wesley College, St. Joseph’s College and Army Mattegoda Grounds from 8.30 am onwards.
On Day 3, Tier ‘A’ quarterfinals will be conducted at the Colts grounds. The finalists will head to the MCA for the Final.
Tier ‘B’ pre-quarterfinals will be conducted at the MCA and St. Joseph’s College grounds. The finalists from Darley Road will head to the MCA for the Final.
CDB has offered 5 Special awards, namely Best Batsman, Best Bowler, Most 6s in the tournament, Man of the Final and Man of the Tournament.
At the 2017 ’6s’, MAS Silueta won from Tier ‘A’, beating MAS Unichela, while CDB won from Tier ‘B’, beating Maliban Biscuits.
The Media briefing and handing over of the Sponsorship took place on Wednesday, August 29, at 6.30 pm, at the MCA fine dining restaurant, ‘The Pitch’.
Present at the ceremony were Director-Chief Credit Officer, Sasindra Munasinghe, Senior Deputy Manager- Innovation & Business Intelligence, Hasitha Dassanayake and Deputy GM Marketing, Dharshana Jayasinghe (all of CDB), President Roshan Iddamalgoda, VP-Chairman Sponsorship Committee, Rohana Dissanayake, General Secretary Nalin Wickremasinghe and Tournament Committee Chairman Sujeewa de Silva (all of MCA).
