Chartered accountants grapple with daunting challenges facing them

There are big changes happening all around us from a disruptive point of view to a change perspective, in relation to technology, geo-politics, trade wars, etc, said an official from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka).

Moiz Rehmanjee Chairman- National Conference Technical Committee of CA Sri Lanka was addressing a media briefing held at the BMICH recently on the 39th National Conference of the Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka to be held on October 8-10 on the theme “Hyperleap”.

He said while these changes are taking place should one fear them or embrace them. “We need to embrace all these changes as disruptions are not going away soon and to come out with better perspectives. As accountancy professionals we have been a driving force for economic growth for the past decades.”

He said as a demographically small country Sri Lanka has an advantage to embrace and to overcome them. The new technological wave coming up is going to be difficult for big companies to grapple with. But Sri Lanka will be in a position to build up from ground zero level to propel it further as “we” are much leaner and agile.

The national conference is to take centre stage in inspiring chartered accountants to take that important leap which will help them evolve and thrive despite the increasing business world complexities. The “Hyperleap” concept will help them to understand the need to embrace challenges without being shackled by technological, demographic and economic changes.

Last year’s national conference attracted over 1700 delegates including business leaders and top professionals. As in the past year, CA Sri Lanka will offer the conference via webcast for the benefit of chartered accountants who are overseas. The three day conference will comprise two days of technical sessions bringing together a cross section of local and foreign speakers and panelists well versed in taking bold initiatives despite the challenges they face in their professional lives.

President of CA Sri Lanka, Jagath Perera said the changes happening around was enormous and it was important for the institute to embrace them and move forward to be ahead with the wave of change. “These challenges should be taken as opportunities,” he said.

Chairman of the National Conference Committee Dulitha Perera also spoke.
