Rs 2,500m ‘Korean Tech’ Voc.Train.Inst.
View(s):The Government will shortly open a new Vocational Training Institute, ‘Korean Tech’, in Orugodawatte, to provide Technical, Vocational Education & Training for Sri Lanka’s youth, with an investment of Rs 2,500 million.
‘Korean Tech’ funded by the Korean government, is slated to open in January 2019, and will recruit 2,000 selected candidates annually, for 8 Courses which include Automotive Technology, Robotics, Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Technology, Welding Technology, Refrigeration & A/C Technology, Electrical Technology, Mechatronics, said Sri Lanka Vocational Training Authority (VTA) Chairman Ravi Jayawardana.
In addition, the Government will lay the foundation stone for another VTI in the Polonnaruwa District, with financial assistance of Rs 6 billion from the Netherlands government. Meanwhile, Minister of Science, Technology, Research, Skills Development & Vocational Training and Kandyan Heritage, Dr Sarath Amunugama, speaking at a press conference to launch the Nipuni Skills Platform, said the Government has identified Construction, Automobile Engineering, Tourism & Hotel Management, Information Technology and Healthcare Service as key priority sectors with immense potential for job opportunities here and abroad.
The Minister said the main objective of launching the Nipuni platform is to establish a centralised database of National Vocational Qualification (NVQ)-qualified individuals islandwide. This would enhance the link between supply and demand of qualified individuals in the country. Accordingly, employers can obtain information on NVQ-certified individuals via Nipuni Skills platform, and employ the most suitable for their requirements.
