State Literary Awards on Tuesday 11 at BMICH
View(s):The State Literary Awards ceremony will be held on Tuesday (11) at the BMICH, under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena, with Minister of Higher Education & Cultural Affairs, Dr Wijayadasa Rajapaksa in attendance.
Creative and Academic/Research works in 2017, in Sinhala, Tamil and English, including originals and translations of Novels, Short Stories, Poetry, Plays, Lyrics, and Literature for youth and children, and Science fiction in the creative genre, originals and translations of Academic and Research work in Humanities, Social Sciences, and translations of related genres will be awarded for their excellence.
The title of “Sahityaratna” will be conferred on 3 eminent writers for their contribution to Sri Lankan Literature, in Sinhala, Tamil and English.
There will be creative performances by renowned artistes including Channa Wijewardena and Ravibandu Vidyapathy to add colour to the occasion.
The State Literary Awards ceremony was first held in 1957, and this year marks its 61st anniversary. The process of selection and organising the ceremony was under the auspices of the State Literary Advisory Board, Arts Council of Sri Lanka, Department of Cultural Affairs and the Ministry of Higher Education & Cultural Affairs.
