ARA Animal Rescue App: A lifeline for our four-legged friends in need
A common sight on today’s streets is the number of abandoned animals languishing on the streets suffering with injuries and disease.
The silent suffering of these souls caught the attention of dynamic, animal lover, Sarah Assan who has taken the initiative to develop a mobile app to track animals that are in need of help.
The owner of Rosara Tea (Pvt) Ltd, Sarah went that extra mile to develop this mobile app for a worthy cause.
Moved by several incidents in the neighborhood, Sarah decided to create a platform which could connect animal lovers, vets, and other NGO’s in real time. She has embarked on a journey to rescue stray animals, injured or in distress.
The mobile app ‘ARA’ (Animal Rescue App) which will be available on both the app store and the google play store is in the process of development. The mobile app together with the website and admin panel costs Rs. 1.5 million and tribefunds.lk, a crowd funding platform is assisting Sarah find the necessary funds to develop the app. The venture is currently in need of funds to develop the app and anyone willing to contribute can fund the app through tribefunds.lk.
Once the app is live, users can download and connect with other users. The app will help overcome all the shortcomings that might restrain animal lovers to come to their rescue.
At least an email and password are required to register on the app. How does the app works ? When someone comes across a sick or injured animal on the road and is unable to attend to it, can use the app to send a message across through the app to anyone in the vicinity to help. Take a picture of the animal and the location is automatically extracted via GPS. Then select the type of incident and comment on the landmark or any other instructions can be submitted in the app.
Once a request is accepted, the volunteer can gets connected with the one who has created the case and thus they can take the rescue ahead.
All expenses incurred by the volunteer who takes the animal to the vet will be reimbursed with the funds collected through the app. The app will also help find lost pets. If a pet is lost users who happen to see the lost pet can post details as well as owners looking for lost pets can post details.
Sarah says the app will be user friendly without any advertisements and convenient for the user to simply log on. She also mentioned that the app will closely work with PetVet Clinic and Best Care Animal Hospital to assist in emergency situations to arrive at the location. She is working towards developing features like ‘foster care’ and the creation of local communities of pet lovers, vets, and NGOs who could later come to the rescue of the animals.
