Cement mixing truck rolls downhill injuring seven
View(s):Seven persons were injured (one seriously), in a freak accident at Aturugiriya on Friday evening.
Four vehicles -a car, a trishaw, a motorbike and a military vehicle- were damaged when an automated cement mixing truck which had been carelessly parked on an incline crashed into four vehicles below, injuring five persons, the Aturugiriya police said.
The vehicles were damaged in the incident which occurred on Friday night at around 9.30 pm near the Panagoda junction in the vicinity of the Colombo-Homagama Road
Police said the trishaw driver was seriously injured. Four other motorists were also admitted to the Homagama Hospital.
Subsequently area residents who identified the driver and cleaner of the truck assaulted the duo for their carelessness.
Chief Inspector Aturugiriya police Upali Alawatte , said the driver and cleaner had to be hospitalised after the assault. Both are undergoing treatment at the Homagama hospital.
The Chief Inspector said the two would be produced before the Kaduwela Magistrate.
