Ashain’s bag of ‘ten’ helps Joes crush St. Patrick’s
St Joseph’s Colombo crushed St Patrick’s Jaffna by an innings and 25 runs in their annual inter-school Rectors Trophy encounter which concluded at St Patrick’s ground in Jaffna yesterday.
The win saw St Joseph’s winning the Rectors Trophy for the third successive time in the annual encounter which began in the year 2016. The foundation for the convincing win for the Josephians was laid by the right arm pace and spin duo Lakshan Gamage and Ashain Daniel who shared nine wickets to restrict the Patricians for a score of 161.
Later Yesith Rupasinghe slammed an 84 ball knock of 105 inclusive of 16 boundaries to help his side end day one on 230 for 5. Resuming from their overnight score the Josephians on day two went on to add a further 83 runs to end their innings making a formidable score of 313 runs.
St Patrick’s batting the second time and left with a task of erasing a deficit of 152 runs was unable to achieve the feat as they succumbed to spinner Ashain who ended with a six wicket haul for a match bag of ten wickets.
Also featured was Miranga Wickramage who bagged three scalps.
Together Ashain and Miranga the Joes bundled out the home team for 127 runs in their second innings.
